Default First time trip to Alaska, fly suggestions please.....

Hi all, I'll be making my first trip to Prince of Wales Island in late July of this year. We'll be doing some saltwater fishing but I know that I'll do at least some stream fishing for dollies, pinks and possibly cutthroat trout. I have a very few of the basics like ESLs and some of the egg and flesh flies but I really have no clue what I'll need or what sizes to concentrate on and I'd love some general suggestions. Also, we may do some flyfishing for silver salmon as well and I'm really at a loss for those guys; I truly don't know where to start.

I've done as much reading as I can on the subject but haven't found that much helpful information so I hope some of you will take pity on the newbie and give me some elementary suggestions for my first trip to Alaska.

    GG.

Dolly llamas in various colors, beads in size 6-10mm, flesh as you already stated, smolt patterns, moal leeches, purple ESL's, prince nymphs, clouser minnows. Hope this helps. Also try this site they catagorize fly patterns to specific species

For pinks tie up a fly that looks just like a sixe 4 Egg Sucking leach in all bright Pink. Same one in Chartruse. Add a little flash. That should do it for Pinks. For Silvers Hot Shot Comets, Bunnies, Cone Head Buggers in size 4. Pink, Purple and some in Chartruse should get you started. Good luck and have a great time!!!!

Thanks a lot guys, as you can imagine, I'm pretty excited and spend a lot of time perusing websites and videos online. Also thanks for the web link 900, I don't have time to look now but it looks very nice.

No problem. Hope your trip is all that you expected. For 7 years I've been able to fish some amazing spots and can't wait till the ice moves out every year. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask. You can also check out. WWW.alaskansalmonslayers.com for some fish porn and reports.

Also an awesome site, thanks fusion. As for my trip, I honestly don't know how I could fail to enjoy it. I'm in my mid-late 40s and I've dreamed about this since I was a tiny kid. Big fish, little fish, many fish, no fish, I'm going to enjoy myself. Thanks.
