Default Look who showed up to help me sight my new rifle in....

Attachment 57977Attachment 57978Went down to get a few eating clams off the beach on Saturday, then drove down the beach to further sight in my new scoped .223. I took 4 shots at a log down the beach about 100 yds away and was in the process of making a 'to the right adjustment' on the scope when a coyote jumped out of some alders about 50 yds away and ran right across my log target. By the time I got my rifle up and him in the sight he was just over 200 yds away. I got one shot off before he got behind some ice berms. But he spun around when I shot so I knew I hit him. I walked down the beach about three quarter a mile and caught up with him. Finished him off with one head shot as he tried to hide in some alders. My first Yote. I've skinned him and am processing his pelt in the garage, just like I used to do the squirrels and rabbits 40 yrs ago.

awesome! I wouldn't mind getting a yote one day. There are some around here but they are rare to see. My dad chased one a couple years ago but it got away in one of the creeks.

The Yote was shot with a DPMS model A-15 .223 shooting Federal 62 grain 'green tip' bullets. Barrel has 1 to 9 twist. There was some pelt damage due to the fact the dog was facing me when I went for the head shot. Skinned his lip barely, entered high on the neck, exited back of neck, quickly re-entered shoulder and exited animal in his lower guts. So....6 inch tear in shoulder and 6 inch tear in lower/side stomach area. I'll try and post photos of pelt in a few days. I would like to think a nice broadside shot would punch a nice clean hole thru them.
