    Default Big Rig Packrafting Video

Hey folks, just returned from a month in New Zealand...preparing for our Alaska summer.

Fantastic adventure and wilderness float on the Karamea River on the South Island.

Here's a Youtube link to a 3 min run on that river with the Big Rig packraft...two people and heavy backpacks in the same packraft.

Explicit lyrics on the vid, be warned and crank it up!:

    Enjoy,

I think I might just be sold on one? Can you PM me some contact info to get ahold of you to ask a few questions. Quite the team work, with the partner I have I think we would just go in circles?

Fun stuff Larry!!! I think I'll avoid that most rapids with my big rig loaded, due to my level of rafting experience, but empty and in dry suits it sure looks fun. Thanks for sharing and can't wait for summer!!! Spring grizz here we come!!

    Oh hilarious music choice btw.

Looks like you had a great time . I try to avoid those type of rivers while hunting but non hunting times those are great rivers to hit.
    Thanks Larry

whitepalm, man i tried to fly fish. The water is so high viz that even my 2013 Kryptek camo pattern didn't help me avoid getting busted by those brown trout. Rainbows are always on the take, but those browns are wily buggers.

But...the water was soooo beautiful and swimming with the eels and the hobbits was memorable! Check out the water clarity on the Peloris, guys. BTW, they are filming "The Hobbit" on this stretch, so i can't wait to see the river on the silver screen.

First off, I do love your videos Larry. Having said that, contrary to what the song says, you weren't on a boat, at least some of the time. Gotta love them swimmers.

yeah troutbum, we got schooled in some larger, scary rapids in the "gorge" where we had long complicated swims with big hydraulics. I nearly drowned on one particular swim. went off a 9' vertical falls and nose dived into the floor of that hole, flipped stern over bow and i was trapped under the packraft for maybe 15-20 seconds. To make it worse, the hydraulics rotated my body like a washing machine cycle. shattered my kayak paddle in two places and twisted me pretty hard with tork. wave after wave overtook me before i could get a breath. swalled a lot of water and nearly breathed in under water out of reflex to gasp air. It was bad.

here's the paddle remains and one of the big rapids with a 3' drop at the head. this was a mild one

Sounds pretty scary. Now you got me feeling bad about making light of the swimming. I'm glad you made it out with just a broken paddle.

Larry, time for me to take the plunge and get one ordered. Do you have any in stock right now. If not, what is the wait time?

yeah, my wife has two of those Gregory packs, and she loves them. I was amazed at how much stuff she packed in it, and it has so many lashing straps for outer loads...great pack.

Cory, got your PM and call. Let me know when you decide what color option you want. I have several coming from Canada in the next few weeks, so should have one for ya soon.

Cory as we talked about, that should make a great raft for your purposes. Can't wait to see her in action, that green looks good with some blood on it.

Thanks a ton Steve! Between the advice from you and Lance and the videos from Larry, I think this is what I have been waiting for! Can't wait to get it and take it on its maiden voyage in Eagle River and beyond!
