Default Added storage space to my Alaskan

Well, I finally finished creating more space in my 26' Alaskan. First, I removed that big fresh water tank and replaced it with a 5 gallon container. We won't ever use 20 gallons of water anyway, plus we always have at least a case of bottles onboard too. Bought some regular hose barbs and threaded them in and sealed them with marine sealant.

Next was removing the ice box. There is tons of unused space in there. I built a raised floor so water could pass under and hopefully keep dry. It's easy to remove occasionally so I shouldn't have any problems. Then I built a shelf with a couple slots for the tank fill hose and sink drain. I also widened the opening by 3 inches all the way around which made it a lot more accessible. Built a couple doors for it with self closing hinges and filled it with rubbermaid bins.

The last thing I did was rivet two pieces of 1/4 aluminum channel inside the transom fish box to give me a 15" sectioned off area. I bought a plastic cutting board from Wally World and cut it to fit. Now I have a divided fish box that can be used for bait or whatever.

I still have to stain and poly the shelves, but I was excited to see how it all looked with stuff shoved in there.

I haven't built the bow plate yet, but I built some regular wooden side rail type guide ons for now. I'm piecing together the steel for the pole guide ons now, then I'll play with the bow plate. Mine is sitting on the side of the driveway, so I've been able to keep it cleared with the snow blower fairly well. The guy I bought the boat from gave me a cool pipe setup that holds a tarp over the back so I've been able to work around in there some too. (flush mount rod holders and downrigger wiring)

    Nice Job there,
nothing like "Customizing your storage areas,"

I like the cutting board divider also,...and the "quick convert," water tank idea,.....Nice

Thanks for sharing the pics, always good to help with my own brainstorming

Thanks, We figured we would never need that much water that the original tank provided, so this will give us some and really open up the storage space for camping gear and stuff. The cutting board Idea came from the new models. I'm a DIY make it better for cheap kind of guy.
