I was looking at the the Drawing Supplement and comparing the number of bison permits awarded vs. the number of applicants for the six different hunts (141 awarded to 23,032 apps). At $10 per entry it generates quite a lot more money compared to any of the other species. Last year it generated more than $1,600 per permit awarded; with the bulk of that money coming from the two Delta hunts ($195k of the total $230k).
With that said, why do you suppose the application fee is twice the amount of every other drawing hunt except muskox (it's also $10)? I'd assume that administrative fees are about the same for every drawing hunt application. Where do these dollars go? Is there a special bison program or study that requires extra funding?
