    Default Whittier Fish Derbies

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that the Whittier Fish Derby has changed the Halibut Derby this year to a "slot limit" fish. In light of the recent concerns over a declining Halibut population, Whittier is encouraging leaving the large breeders in the water.

Any fish between 45-65 pounds can be entered in the derby. The fish closest to a random drawn weight (between 45 -65 pounds), whether it be over or under, will determine the prize winners.

Lots of monthly prize drawings will be held this year for all those that buy a derby ticket.

The prize winners (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) place for the silver salmon derby will still be based on the largest fish by weight.

Sounds fair enough. Now everyone fishing PWS (especially small boaters) can enter without having to run far out to catch big fish.

That's an excellent way to manage that. Good for the organizers.
