Are you going up the mountain or just around it? The Thomas trail is open from what I heard. Plenty of snow too!

From the scouting and research I've done it's pretty tough just to find that trail. Anyone have tricks to finding it? I'm gonna bring extra gas in case I have to hunt for it

Thomas trail is marked. Kind of hard to explain the way but if you come off the trail from Flathorn and head down river about a mile you can accsess the cut tree trail to Alexander Creek and go up creek about 8 miles to the derf lake trail and thats where you will find Thomas trail. Or you can go to Trail Lake and go in from there but thats a lot of extra miles. I live on the lower Alexander and dont get to ride up there much cuz I'm to busy hauling frieght in the winter. Usually get up that way when I haul to Yensus and that about it. I know the scouts have been keeping that trail up though. If anyone has questions they can call me at 733-1559. Easy to explain that way!

Go ahead and call, I can probaly explain it to you good enough. My neighbor comes out on weekends and is always looking for someone to run the mountain with him so you could come our way and go with him somtime!

We cut the trail into the top of the mountain last winter. It didn't look like anyone had been from the Thomas trail to the top in a couple years. One of my partners has the gps track, but it isn't here with me... From the Derf lake trail terminal where it goes into the Thomas Trail, the route up the mountain is on the left side immediately going up the big hill. Like mentioned earlier, hard to explain. The map that the Scouts put up that you see going up the trail has the route close, but not exact. We took a club ride to the top that included 25 or so riders, so the clearing we did should be of some help.

My POS CAT engine seized just outside flat horn, thought the trip was ruined but a friend let me stay in his cabin. Maybe next time I'll make it onto the mountain. Now I need a new sled
Wasn't very fun but sure beats sitting at home complaning about alaska weather ha ha
