Thread: Copper Solvent

  1. #1

    Default Copper Solvent

What is the best copper solvent on the market now? I have been using Hoppe's copper solvent and Barnes CR10. I also use some Sweet's 7.62 solvent at times. It all seems to work but takes lots of time and effort. I know they come out with new products all the time. Thought they might be something better out by now that I do not know of.

I've just been turned on to Bore tech Eliminator and have been impressed. No ammonia smell too.

I've used a bunch of different products, but I now use Wipe-Out. I'll not be using anything else until I can't get anymore Wipe-Out.

1Cor15:19 is the Wipe-out liquid or one of the new foaming cleaners?

i recently tried a "new product" montana extreme.....it works great. as with most bore solvents, DO NOT cross contaminate patches while cleaning the bore. some chemicals will react to each other and damage (frost) the bore. this cannot be corrected. i always dry patch throughly between solvents, and during the cleaning process.

kroil ant jb paste is also effective and inexpensive.

i still use old stand-by's like cr10 by barnes, and of course sweets.
    happy trails.

I use their foam product, but they produce a couple varieties of cleaners. Here is a Midway link for comparison: Wipe-Out

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

I used electrolysis a couple of times on a really bad bore. I think wipe out did the same thing and was exponentially easier. It is all I use now. The whole box of other solvents is gone now.

But there is no money in that for gun stores or gun cleaning supply companies!

What strength do you recommend? The 28% solution we used to get for blueprints is now hard to find.

Not that strong. You can find the industrial strength maybe 5-8% at cleaning supply houses. I would remove the action from the stock, use a chamber plug, fill the bore. Let stand watching the clock five (5) minutes. It works like Gangbuster's. I also think the copper problem is a little overblown. Get the majority out and get on with life.

I make my own,4 parts 10% Janitors strength ammonia and either 1 part water or K1 Kerosene. Works just like Barnes CR10,you can make about 40 oz. for about $4.
