I wonder if he knows what he is doing is illegal, or if he is drinking too and just don't care, either way I left him a note on Youtube.
Not sure what is worst him or his kick and crush buddy.

The problem with this kind of police work is it solves nothing. The measly little 100 dollar fine isn't even worth law enforcements time. IMO, the fine for this kind of activity should be 3000.00 w/ 1500.00 suspended for the 1st violation, w/ 3 years probation, and a point system. When you run out of points you surrender your fishing privileges. We don't have the resources to put trooper sting operations behind every bush, so my answer is to pay people like hippie at least half this fine for uncovering the perpetrators (if they're convicted of course).

Must be ignorant of Alaska's laws. If they knew them they wouldn't put this out there for the world to see.

    That being said.....idiots.

That happens down at Jim Creek on the hog line! I watched one guy do that, and after he got his hook out, dug his foot into the sand underneath it and punted it a good 5' in the air. Saw another couple guys chasing a school of reds around in circles throwing snagging hooks at them. Promptly called the troopers and made my exit never to return to Jim Creek. Fished it one time and will never go back. That place is a complete shet show. If a trooper went under cover there I'm sure he could get his monthly quota in an afternoon.

I know they're there once in a while. Apparently not enough to make people think twice about abusing fish like that.

Went back and read the comments now posted on the youtube site concerning this video. He now claims the fish was "released" after being drug through the sand, stomped on, and most likely kicked back into the water....

Found this other video on his youtube acct. Viewed on full screen it appears this coho is hauled in backwards before swimming onto the bank...And again hauled up on the sand. The blade of the spinner is pretty evident on the right side of the fish...And appears to be behind the gills...Near the pectoral fin....

    This guy is a genius.....

I think the guy in the original video took the hint. I tried to watch it but now it is a private video. If anything Hippy you might have helped to stop one of the many idiots on the river!

Not to condone that activity by these guys, but why do people want the death penalty for these sort of violations, but don't bat an eye at someone catching 30 awesome Sockeye with a dipnet. Has anyone even tried to eat 30 Sockeye? It is almost impossible and even if you "share" them, most of them are probably getting freezer burnt in the end. I guess I just am turned off by selective morality. I actually had a moron catch-and-release purist tell me that he won't even fish for Sockeye because they technically don't bite. He says it is unpure because people are just snagging them in the mouth, which is true, but who the heck cares?

he is a moron...........sockeye will chase and bite, problem is people don't know what their diet is so they don't know what flies they will hit.

I have no problem consuming 40+ sockeye during the course of a year, in addition to other seafood we harvest and consume. 4 fish per month isn't a whole lot.....less than one per week.

I salute you andweav. My wife and eat salmon twice a week and the most we eat is a little more than one fish per month. I honestly admire you, but I know a lot of people who aren't as ethical as you are. I wish I could eat more, but twice a week gets old sometimes. I guess I need more recipes.
