    Default Iridium Extreme

Another new toy coming out this year.

Similar to the current Iridium 9555 sat phone, but ruggedized, waterproof, shockproof, etc. They also seem to have added SPOT style GPS tracking and an SOS button. Looks like it will run in the $1500 range vs. $1200 for the 9555. Should be popular with industry up here, which might put some older phones on the surplus market.

Man, that looks sweet. 8.7oz, and it looks like you would not need a storage box. It is 7ozs lighter than my 9555, I think I just found my next must have.

I think its 0.7 oz lighter Stid

But hey, if you need to justify it that way...

Those 9555's are actually pretty darn tough. I've never used a box with mine in the field. Been rattling around the bottom of my pack in a zip lock bag for the last two years. Used in the rain many times. But still.... I'm willing to bet my company will spring for the first couple of these that hit Anchorage.

    Nice...

Things are slowly getting lighter, more durable and more dependable with these sat phones. Nice to not have to bring the protective box along on a hunt.
Although I scrapped that for a small waterproof bag on a recent hunt.

Who knows, someday everyone will probably have them like cell phones.
