    Default Sept trip to Nome

I went to Nome with friends this past September for ptarmigan. It was nice to see new country and find birds. Obviously it cost a quite a bit more than driving an hour and hoofing it into the mountains, but I enjoyed it. The per pound price of ptarmigan meat certainly skyrocketed this year!
The season opens September 1st up there and we went September 4th thru the 10th. Birds were still in small family groups and many were still immature. We did not find tons of birds but enough to get a couple points each day. I think the bird numbers may be in a down cycle right now.
I didnt take a lot of pictures because I was really concentrating on getting Ember as many contacts as possible.

That dog is on my wish list!! Thanks for taking the time to post the pics, looks like a trip worth consideration. I crept around your profile albums as well, jealous. I actually saved the picture of your ptarmigan mounts from a post last winter as an idea for when I lay down some nice representatives of the North.

Thanks for sharing the pics! Looks like you had a good trip. Never try to figure out the $ per lb of any game animal in Alaska but it's more fun than going to the store!
