Default 71" Moose Possible Leader Antler & Horn Contest Sportsman's Warehouse

There are a bunch of nice moose in the contest at Sportsman's in Wasilla. A couple youth moose are pushing 66"-70".

There is a 71" moose shot by Dave Rampage.....any guesses where it came out of? This bull was a fighter, he took a lot of abuse to his rack, cracks, breaks, holes, gnarly lookin'.

There are about 12 caribou racks hanging and 8 moose for the contest. There are a few nice caribou, No sheep.

FYI the contest pays out 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for biggest moose, sheep and caribou. It pays out each species in 3 categories, rifle, archery and youth. Overall biggest moose, caribou, and sheep get a free shoulder mount as well. Contest ends December 31st.

It's to bad I don't have a 2011 sheep, I'd be the only entry and winner!

I'd post pictures of the 71" moose, but I don't have attachment permission.....possibly due to being a new user?

Everything about hunting is competitive, Dave. We compete for areas to hunt. We compete for the animals in the area. Some like to compete for the largest animal.
Humans are a competitive species. For centuries our species, in many, many cultures has honored the best hunters.
Competition is often good for us. We can't all just wait for the moose to come into our back yard!!

    Right on martentrapper..

Some hunters are sportsmen and some are not.
Not a tough concept to understand, kinda like competitive sightseeing or fishing.

I'll concede a point, but dispute the need for corporate affirmation of prowess.

LOL, you should take your trophies down to the local Occupy Wall Street spinoff and get some affirmation from "the 99%"

They give prizes. No different than a trapper selling his furs, except you get to keep it.

I need no affirmation from anybody, concerning my hunting prowess. What I do need though, is 300 bucks. Pretty sure I'd have the caribou category locked up, so to me, free money would be the motivation (please don't confuse this with welfare mentality, I am just broke, and 300 bucks sounds awful good right about now).
