    Default 7.62x51mm ammo ???

A friend gave me a bunch of 20 round boxes of ammo that came in a sealed plastic shipping bag. It's obviously a variety of surplus ammo he acquired.

I don't have experience with this stuff and wondered if anyone can shed some light on it's origin, performance or BC data. I dissembled a couple and weighed the components, weights below.

I will most likely use it for general purpose steel target shooting, maybe some 500 yard stuff if it shoots true. I plan on shooting some of it next week. A little chrony work to see what it does.

    Box Marking:

    20 ROUND

    7,62x51mm BALL R1. M1.
    80

    A 679

    Head Stamp: 7.62 R1 M1 A79
Bullet is a boat tail FMJ. Weight is 143gr
Powder is short extruded. Charge is 42gr
    Bullet and primers are sealed.
Primer crimped by three strikes in head rather than a circle impression around it's circumference.
