    Default Goat Hide

I got a nice Mnt Goat last night, and I was interested in having the hide tanned. I am not sure how to go about having this done. I don't have fleshing tools or much room to work on it. Do I have a Taxidermist prep the hide and have it tanned. about how much should this cost. How much would I save to do the work myself and send it to the tannery. So far I have removed the hide and rolled it up and stuck it in the freezer. It was pretty crazy how thick the hide was in parts. Towards the tail it was almost an inch of hide, not fat! Plus who knows of a good Taxidermist in Juneau or southeast? Thanks

you wont get much better than Chuck Buchanan http://www.northforktaxidermy.com/ in carcross. he did my brown bear 20yrs ago & it still looks good. he's done most of the stuff in the bald eagle foundation building in haines also. check out frontierland up there too. you'll need to get a cites permit to get your hide up there, check with canadian customs

Sitka Tribal Tannery does goats. You could just ship it to them green and frozen and they would charge for fleshing and tanning.

Their turn around isn't great yet. Although there are many tannerys down south that process hides much quicker and likely cheaper. Although the shipping may be a little bit more.

If it's gonna be done into a mount someday I'd go directly through a taxidermist. If it's just gonna be a throw and your patient then Sitka Tribal Tannery would be just fine.
