    Default Chewing

9 month old lab. He chews from time to time. Mostly at night when we are a sleep..

Most likely he is a little wound up and just needs additional excercise during the day. Add an extra hour or two of activity daily and see how things go.

and also give him things he's allowed to chew... rawhides, kong toys, tennis balls etc. My lab slowed down the chewing around age 1 1/2.

My little ESS is doing the same thing. I keep her busy with hard chew bones and rawhides. Bitter apple spray helps some too.

My breeder is a lifelong vet and he has always recommended I give my dogs a large, clean, cow femur bone to chew on. Other bones splinter and can cause problems. Reportedly the rashness can be a problem as well; mostly with large undigested pieces being hard to pass.

    Best of luck to you!

Keep them in a crate at night for ~ the first year until the worst of the chewing stage is over. They're never completely over chewing until they're in their grave.
