    Default go to powder

I was just wondering what peoples go to powders are. I have found that I'm starting to like RL-15. It shoots great out of my 338-06, my 7mm-08 and my 22-250. If I see a load that list that powder it will be the first one I will try. I don't know what it is, but it just seems to shot good in everything that I have tried it in.

RL-17...shoots fantastic in the .300WSM and the .375 Ruger with listed loads for almost everything else I shoot.

Right now, it has been a lot of RL-22. Also Retumbo, RL-17, RL-15, Varget...

    I load for about 30 different cartridges. They just don't make a go to powder that fits a 22hornet a 416Rem a 32acp and a 454 among others.

Don't care for the RL powders they have to big of extreme spread for me. Example fella was running loads through the chrono he was using RL 25 the extreme spread was 80 f.p.s!!!! I prefer hodgdon powder I had extreme spread of 9 f.p.s using h-1000. The only RL powder I use is RL 15 it works great in the 7mm-08. But for me h-4831 (the best powder ever great for the 06 based cases). For you 270 Winchester guys 56.0gr of h-4831 w/ a 140gr bullet can't go wrong!! Then followed by h-4350, followed by h-1000.

    Unique, H-110, RL7, H-335, RL 15, H 4350.

I load enough different cartridges that I can't use a single go-to powder, and there are several other powders I've used over the years in addition to those. But those powders have produced excellent accuracy and top velocities in multiple cartridges.

Use gun powders like most women have shoes; lots of different ones for different occasions.

I haven't been reloading very long but the first batch of .375 H&H 300gr. hornady RN Interlocks I loaded with a min. load of RL15 produced about a 1" group at 100yards on a windy day. I was pretty stoked cause I was just trying to get on paper and it was only my second reload formula!

What primer was used? Could be the culprit.

I don't know I forgot to ask, I was using Fedearl 215 in mine do alot of powder being burned. If you notice some Stid load developement with his 375 he had a extreme spread of 30 f.p.s using RL 15 to some that isn't nothing but to me that seems a little excessive.

As long as they go into the same hole, I can live with some spread. After all how accurate is the chrono really???

Small world, that would be my most used list also, I don't have a go-to but about 30 types I use in loading who knows how many calibers I load for.

Was referring to my chrono, since you were referencing my data.
