    Default Maiden Voyage!

A couple of buddies and i hit the salt for a maiden voyage on my buddies boat, water was flat calm and with seeing a ton of birds in the area we were hunting we just new it was going to be a good day. The majority of the birds seen were goldies with a few harlis here and there. Had one harli run the gauntlet unscaved we were all a little puzzled on how he managed to do it but hey thats hunting,we did however manage 1 common golden eye. great day on the water with friends.

Love the sound of whistling wings but never found a good way to cook golden eye. You have a good recipe? Never shot a harlequin, they any good to eat?

I personally do not like Harli's. To strong a flavor for me. Goldeneyes are fine.
I like to slice the meat thin, soak in it mike for at least an hour. Drain and rinse in water. Then fry it about 1/2 done and add Orange and Ginger marinade and finish it. Do not over cook. Serve on a bed of white rice and steamed vegs. 'Real Fine" Duckdon

It's a 22ft fishing boat enclosed cabin I didn't get any pics of it unfortunately. But the deeks I converted into seaducks worked great.

What kind of scoters do you normally see out there?

I see Surf's the most. Black I do see here and there. Once in a blue moon I have seen a raft of White's out there.

Surfs are my favorite. I think those bills are the neatest thing in the waterfowl world. And the white eyes are really neat too. I think the common scoters taste the best. I will be happy with shooting any kind of them, but I have a special place in my heart for surf scoters. We were going to go out this weekend but the winds shut us down. Hopefully I can get out sometime this week.
