Thread: My first brown bear

  1. #1

    Default My first brown bear

Taken at Upper Togiak Lake at 13 yards with a 375 H&H / 300g Swift A-Frame this Sept. Had a tense 10 minutes in the "pucker brush" following his blood trail but found him laying dead.

Very nice! Nice bear and nice photos. I can imagine the adrenaline was flowing as you searched for your fallen quarry! Looks like you had a great hunt!

Very nice bear! Congrats on your successful hunt. Are you going to do a rug?

The other 299,300,000 people can have it.

Noone has a more intimate understanding of, or deeper appreciation for freedom, than a soldier who has fought for it in a country where it does not exist.

Definitely a rug, D&C out of Anchorage is doing it for me. I'm still waiting on my bear measurements (skull and square) but regardless how it measures out, I'm very happy with both my hunt and bear.

Very cool, did you recover the bullet?

Yes here it is. It was a frontal quartering shot at 13 yards, I was so close I could see the bullet hit before the recoil moved the scope. It broke the right front shoulder, destroyed both lungs and lodged in the far hide just in front of the left rear leg. I was shooting through a small willow tree so the bullet may have already expanded a bit before it hit the bear. The 300g Swift A-Frame still weighs 299.5 grains ...

Great looking bear Chuck! That must have been a little tense with one that close not to mention going in the brush after him.

Looks like that A-Frame held its own pretty good.
