    Default Evidence of sex

I came very close to cutting the vaginal orifice off of a cow this year. Very nerve racking!! I think I was able to salvage enough to pass had I been stopped but I was dang glad I wasn't. Anyone have any tricks for leaving the vagina attached to the meat?

    Good question............

We just dont want to break the law, right? The "Penis sheath" or a "wet spot" dont seem to count as eveidence of sex??

Leaving the skin area on the animal, about 3 times as much as you think you should, is the only way I know. Someone with more knowledge will jump in soon.

Not that I am an exspurt on the matter...but it seems to me that; If you were to lay them on their back, spread their legs wide apart, so you can see what your are doing is the primary starting point. Then splitting them right down the middle, leaving half on each side, would give you twice as many chances of getting it right. Sometimes it takes more than once...Does ADF&G have a video out yet on leaving evidence of sex?

Before I learned the proper way to keep a bull penis attached to the ham, I would put a plastic bag around it and tie it off protecting the meat and keeping it attached to the ham. I donít know if that would work on a cow or not. I do know the meat needs to be protected what ever method is used.

OK don't laugh at me - well Ok go ahead, but perhaps it would be wise to snap a good photo or two of the cow's tail-end just as a potential backup plan - it may save a ticket if ya felt you had not saved enough physical evidence or happen to have lost it?
    Most camera's have "dating" abilities???

Hmmm, then again is that animal porn?????

The only problem with that is that one of the main points of keeping the evidence of sex attached is to prove that you salvaged the legal animal for the specific hunt. In some areas, it was not uncommon for people to hike way back/up and take a nice big bull moose (salvaging only the antlers), then hike back to camp and shoot a cow to have meat to go with the antlers from the bull. Just having a picture of the bull wouldn't help to show that what you have in the boat/ATV/Truck is the same animal.

    Lujon,

When the evidence of sex thing first started I remember going into Indian Valley Meats and seeing four bull moose hanging in there with the entire sex organs, hair and all, still attached to the skinned hindquarters. I asked Doug Drum about that and his reply was, "oh, dose guys at da fish and game are making dem leave dat on dere. It makes no sense!" Well, it didn't, so I called them and discovered that with bulls all you need to leave attached is about three or four inches of the skinned penis tube attached to one quarter. We leave it on the first one we pull off the carcass, while we're thinking about it. I know with bulls you don't have to leave anything with hair attached to it on the meat. I would therefore assume that the same is true of cows. I would skin the sex organ out and leave a portion of the tube attached to the first quarter you pull off. Of course leave plenty of it attached, so they know what it is...

But don't just take my word for it. I would recommend calling ADF&G to confirm.

I'm confident enough in this interpretation that I do it when I'm guiding, without hesitation.

Be sure your hunting partners know what it is; it's conceivable that somebody will want to trim the fat off those quarters before flyout, and they could cut that off, thinking it is waste. Make sure everyone knows what is what!

Another thing I do is, put some flag tape on the knot of the game bag with the quarter that has the evidence attached. Saves some work if a trooper ever wants to see it.

We've always achieved evidence of sex by stuffing a condom in their poop shoot!
