    Default Banned for life...........

I have seen mention of people being banned from the forum. Guess it takes more then my sarcasm to earn this honor, since nobody has threatened to ban me yet. What does it take, is it perminant or temporary ban, who does it. I've seen a couple that should be banned, my opinion only, but what does it really take to be banned. Who has the power of GOD to ban somebody from here. Bud

My guess would be the owner of the site, Mike Strahan that could ban permenantely.
Why do you bring this up?

The bottom line is this is NOT your forum, and it is NOT my forum. There'fore "OUR" vote does not matter. It will be run the way they want, even if there is no interesting Content here."

Just curious about this statement. I don't recall or know of anybody being banned personally. Maybe there have been some porn postings or something very vile that have been removed without my knowledge. Just mostly wondering if any of the regular posters have been banned for something that may be contraversial at one time or another. Bud

Vince was banned over the winter and he had over 7000 posts, so I would say he was a contributor, and there are lots of threads that get deleted during a topic, haven't noticed one in a while to point too, but someone saps them every now and then. It is a mystery though for sure how some posts float along and others are full of steel sinking into the abyss.

I qualify as "divinity"? Huh...I had no idea.

Very, very few contributors have been banned over the years. We ban spammers every day, but we go through quite a lengthy process before considering banning a regular member. Generally speaking, infractions are a tool to try to get someone to comply with the forum rules that they agree to when they sign up for the site. If posts that are flagrant violations of forum rules continue, then the penalties get a bit stiffer. As for some of the members mentioned here, not one of them was summarily banned, and all of them are welcome to come back if they so choose. The caveat, of course, is that they have to agree to abide by the forum rules. We don't get any pleasure out of people leaving - we just ask that people post in a manner consistent with the stated rules.

As for individual cases, as a matter of policy we do not discuss discipline publicly. If you have any individual concerns, my PM box is always open and I'm always willing to talk.

    Brian,

I hope you understand that blackdawg was posting a quote from someone else and was not the one calling you out. As an aside, I can think of one person I know that was banned.
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Yep, I got that - perhaps my post wasn't clear - I know that he wasn't the one saying that. Besides, I didn't take offense.

As for folks being banned, without exception they are given the choice to stay - provided that they are willing to abide by the forum rules. We don't apologize for having standards and then enforcing them. Every person that violates the rules is given warnings, infractions, and so on. If banning becomes a real option, it will be explained in very clear terms what the problem is and what the solution is. Only folks that choose to continue to flout the forum rules will have their access blocked, and in almost every case we are willing to welcome people back if they agree to abide by our relatively simple standards. People only leave this site as a result of their own choice to do so.

I'm a little confused... how are they welcome back if they are banned? do they get their moniker back? whats it take? if one did have to start over, wouldn't that be breaking a forum rule about having more than one account? (or does it just mean more than one active account) so you can have 3 banned accounts and still be welcome back? just wondering.. if an account is "locked" ..that's not welcomed back..??

Even if an account is blocked, there are ways to contact us. Basically what I'm saying is that very, very few people have gone so far that they're beyond the point of redemption. (Perhaps a poor word choice, but it's what is coming to mind at the moment.) If someone wants to change their ways, we're willing to hear them out. As for the specifics, that would be dependent upon the conversation we'd have with that individual.

I realize that all of this might sound a little heavy-handed and that some of the context is getting lost without face-to-face communication, but again, the point is that we just have some very general (and, in my opinion, very reasonable) expectations that we ask people to abide by. Don't attack others and don't post profane things that most folks wouldn't want their kids looking at, and all the rest will generally take care of itself. When folks run afoul of those simple requests, they do it of their own volition. We have no desire to ban anyone (and again, we've done so very few times), but when it comes to that point, it only does so because the person in question is choosing to leave based upon their actions.

is there a formal appeal process, or a way in which members are allowed to affect the board regulations?

Nothing formal, but I'm always willing to talk - over a pint of beer, a cup of coffee, the phone, or via PM. I'm pretty sure I could say the same of Mike.

If i recall .. someone posted an open letter to the forum... told the owner to piss up a rope AFTER getting an infraction... and pulled their advertising after getting locked out.. is against the forum rules?...
