    Default Steese Hwy

Took Max, my GSP, up into the high country off the Steese today. We went a few dozen miles north of Fairbanks and then hiked a few miles across varied terrain and mixed woods - steadily upward until we breached the tree line. We hiked around up high for a while bustin' willow patches and high grass. By then, Max's chest was about as red and chaffed as is probably healthy - his knees didn't look much better. So blamed that instead of my screamin' feet and we headed back out after about 4 hours. Max never quit though -- hunted all the way out. It was easily some of the prettiest country I have walked. No birds seen, which was a little disappointing - but a very memorable afternoon, nonetheless.

    Great picture Kyle!

I have spent many hours in that same country doing the same thing. I always seem to be a day lat and a dollar short. Dog gets birdy but none around.

Thanks. Good all-around adventure -- and I look to do it again soon before the snow comes in too much.
