Thread: Flies for Upper Kenai Silvers?

Default Flies for Upper Kenai Silvers?

Fishing the Upper Kenai beginning on Thursday. Never fished for silvers this late in the fall and need some help on flies. I've caught them on ESL's and even beads while trout fishing through September, but I'd like to find what works best over the next few weeks.

    Thanks

I have been catching silvers on a alaskabou variant. variant in that it has a few lead wraps near the eye to provide some jiggin' actin on the strip, and a touch of flash. Easy to cast, lots of movement when stipped.

Black and yellow, orange, or green seems to work well...I still have not got em to take anything off the surface or pink.

I found that maroon egg sucking leach works well

My most productive fly this year for silvers has been with a purple egg sucking leach with a bright orange or pink head/egg. If you see fish and they aren't biting, change it up. I caught some nice bows and dollys while using those leaches as well. Good luck!
