    Default Successful black bear hunt!

CIMG0420.jpgMy first black bear! What a beast, he was 6' from the tip of the nose to the end of the tail. Anyone want to venture a guess on the weight? Anyways, my buddy Ian and I found this boar at the top of a ridge near Hope. Ian spotted the bear, and then informed me it would be my first. Thanks Ian! Anyhow we had an easy stalk (though the climb sucked!) and we worked as a team to take him down. I learned a lot on this trip due to my own stupidity and the class act of Ian.
    1. Dont get overly excited and forget to change into your hiking boots
    2. I haven't gutted anything in over ten year. So I guess I relearned that.
    3. If your going to shoot a giant bear at the top of a mountain, be prepared to work your butt off getting the beast down!

The second picture is of Ian. This bear should have been his, and he worked his butt off helping out a friend! Thank you again Ian!

Kinda tuff to tell from the photos but I'd guess a bit over 200, maybe 225 or so?

    Thumbs up

Very nice first bear and hats off to your buddy for his efforts with your success. Good huntin' buddies are hard to come by. Now the question is which direction to go taxidermy wise

Nice looking bear can't wait to get on bears again when I get back home. Had he been on fish, did you pack out all the meat, or just the hide and skull.

Congratulations: Nice Bear. I have been watching two all day behind the cabin. Just from PM's I have received, I think about 10 or 12 black bears have been harvested by members of this forum in the month of September in the Hope/Sunrise area.

Taxidermy wise I am getting a rug made. Pretty excited about that! We also carried all the meat out and my body is hating me for it right now. I guess I wasn't in as good of shape as I thought I was. haha and AGL I've been wanting to hit Hope for the last month because of all your posts.

When you take into account spring bear baiting, I guessing it's more like 20 bears that have been taken off that road.
    Finally, Brad Childress is GONE!

Nice job guys. A mature fall black bear. Sounds like you two will be doing more hunts together. Its not east to spot one and go get it. I can remember doing that a few times and not finding the bear and once I get back down....seeing the bear in the same berry patch. WAY TO GO!

Nice job - you earned that bad boy! A 6' fall bear all fattened up and ready for hibernation - my guess is it could easily push 300 lb mark....
    thx for posting!
When asked what state I live in I say "The State of Confusion", better known as IL....
