This guy stuck out like a sore thumb, which was his undoing . Saw another as well today. Can't recall a previous season where I saw this much color this early. Usually it's into October in my neck of the woods. He's not 100% fully plumed but darn close.

I usually don't see them until I start seeing ice on the pond. It's nice to see though. Now if I could only connect with a full color Canvasback, or a Pintail.

Thanks man, going down south to hunt pheasants in about a month, we will see how that goes.. Lol should be fun regardless, tried to hunt ducks 10 years ago and wa going to cost an arm and leg.. Will check back into that later on, there are a ton of birds over here and some of the locals hunt them. Just have to plugged into the system. Shouldn't take me long.. If anyone can, I will.

Both of my last 2 mallards were still in eclipse, but that means nothing. It's like saying all hatchlings ducks hatch on the same day, which is not true as we all know (possible exception of owner state). Nesting can very by several weeks thoughout the state, some early, some late, depending upon weather and water conditions, so those same ducks mature at different times. The early ones are unlucky, they are more sought after at targets. Bud

    Nice job Griff...

Are you going to get it mounted or what?
I put mine on the wall at the Cabin, above where Nina passed on theGreat_picture_of_nina_and_birds_in_blind.jpg 4th of July. After 30 something years of waterfowling it was my first Bull Can and it was on one of her last hunts. She did a great job picking it up after I got it with the ol'spanish 20ga DB. Was a great day with the ol'girl. She will be missed.

Ed out in big lake does really good work. He has done all my birds and they all came out great. Have you seen anymore full color cans out there? That bird is number one on my list of birds I want to get mounted. I am looking to go down to the outdoor rec center on base and see if I can get a small boat rented. Hopefully I can make it out there this weekend.
