Thread: Trout?

    Red face Trout?

I'm not a fly fisherman and I don't have a boat but want to get some trout. Any advice?

Can you fill in a few details?

What area of the State are you in?

How far are you willing to drive?

Are you adverse to doing some hiking?

It's assumed you're using spin gear, but what type of tackle?

    Help us help YOU!!

    <grin>

Well heck then, let's just leave those posts on a web page and close the forums down.

I don't think any of us ever took up fishing without asking a few questions first.....

I did. There was no internet boards. There was running water and fish. I had to figure it out.

The best way to learn to fish "SouthCentral Style" is to go with someone who is successful. Pay attention to the folks who catch fish and ignore the folks who don't. That's the best advice I can give.

Go to the Fishing forum and read the archives. There are tons of useful nuggets scattered among the toilet paper flowers. While it may be difficult to discern between the two, the best advice is to GO FISHING.

Carry a regs book as Alaska has some screwy fishery laws that are difficult to comprehend at times.

The Barbie rod catches fish. Anyone who says they can't catch trout without a $1500 bamboo fly rod has never had the privilege of fishing a barbie rod!

    Good times!

I live in Wasilla and I don't mind driving a little, but I also wouldn't mind hiking.

no need to do any hiking.
The parks highway streams are still fishable. There should be a good amount of trout and dollies in them.
Hit up Mark in hunting or Chris in fishing at Sportsmans Warehouse or talk with Mike at 3 rivers for some info.
There should be some decent fishing until freeze up.

Fish the mouths. Grayling are plentiful right now, and now and again you will likely get rainbow as well.
