    Default Preserving Grouse Skins

Is there a good way to preserve some grouse skins from hunts this fall? I would like to tie soft hackle patterns with them and was curious to know what steps I need to go to keep the quality up and the feathers sanitary too.

I use a staple gun to tack mine to a board, but you could just as well use thumb tacks and cardboard. Use 20 Mule Team Borax, the laundry additive (same stuff guys use to cure roe) and NOT Boraxo hand soap. Doesn't take much at all. Heck, if it was warmer and drier here you wouldn't even need the borax. I have skins I dried plain 30 years ago in a dry climate and they're still fine, but any time I've tried it up here, borax was better.
