Thread: Parks Highway grayling and bows with a 6 meter pole...

Default Parks Highway grayling and bows with a 6 meter pole...

...wielded by my 6 year old son no less. Really.

Headed to a Parks Highway stream to see if we couldn't find a few fish for my son who had been begging me to take him fishing.

We arrive and I set him up with a ultralight spinning reel and a size 0 vibrax. He lands a few grayling before losing the lure. Then I tie on a mickey finn streamer and a splitshot and he does fine with that.

I set up a 6 meter/ 18 ft pole my father in law brought over from Japan for me. It's a pole...as in no reel. It sure was a lot of fun. I did catch one small rainbow maybe 12 inches and a really good size grayling and they both tested the rod. I wonder what a 18 inch rainbow might do? I need to cut back from the 4lbs to 2lbs test to save the rod. Of course he wants to try it and he gets the hang of it immediately.

I used a size 10 prince nymph, a super small split shot, and a large indicator. Bite was on and off but over three hours I think my son and I landed 20 fish. Only 2 small bows, the rest grayling.

Thats awesome. My home stream there. Fished it before the road was in. Great memories. Your son won't forget. Thanks for sharing the great pics.

Looks like a good time and a nice size grayling your son is holding.
