Default 1 king/ 2 king line clarification in Cook Inlet

Am I just not remembering my geography?

    The regs say:

    King salmon . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . entire year
    –North of the latitude of Anchor Point light (59°46.142’N) . . . . . . . . . .1 per day/1 in possession
    –South of the latitude of Bluff Point (59°40’N) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2 per day/2 in possession

So what is it in the 6 minutes of latitude or by my maps roughly 3.5 miles? I would assume the default answer is the 1 per day but seems odd they would pick two points to draw a "line" and have an "undefined" area like this.

    Am I missing something?

I don't think you're missing anything. Cliffhanger and I were looking at that reg the other day and came to the conclusion that it was a mistake. I was kind of hoping that if you caught any kings in that area there was no limit, but I have a feeling that's not what they meant.

I am guessing that they meant to make the Anchor Pt. light the dividing line and the 59/40 line was just left in their by mistake.

You have to read the next line down for the area between those two points:

    –Between Anchor Point light and Bluff Point. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . April 1-September 30. . . . . . . . . . . . . 1 per day/1 in possession

    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . October 1-March 31 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .2 per day/2 in possession

The board moved the line for the winter king fishery north to the Anchor Point light which caused the regulation to change. See link to news release describing this change.

Well cool. Thanks! I can't believe I missed that... that's not a good sign....for me.

But what the hell, sometimes its a good thing to be wrong! It shortens the distance by 6 miles which is FOREVER in a kayak subject to the tides and winds of cook inlet. You still have to find the fish I suppose.

Looking for a good weather/tide window to try it again. I may even be armed with a full sized downrigger for my yak.
