    Default My First Spruce Grouse

Yea, my very first spruce grouse. Got a total of 3, the harvest was grilled and enjoyed by my family. I also made chilli with the leftovers.

I think I will try to harvest each variety of grouse and chronical my adventures with this thread. Fun times, for in-between fishing.

Very cool man. You will find the guys who hang around the small game hunting forum are super nice and always helpful.

Can't wait to see what else you get! I have yet to bag a sharpie so I am ever searching for this elusive bird

Thats awesome, I have been chasing those birds since the begining of the season and I have only came across 2, those 2 will live another day. I'm going to keep after them until I taste them.

Good luck JMSS. There are 7 species in the state but if you just want "ptarmigan" then you won't have to worry about one from each of the 3 species. Someday I'll get all 7 my own self but for now the white-tailed ptarmigan is my top priority (meaning, I haven't went out but if I could choose, that's what I would try for).

Found a few spruce grouse agin this weekend, guess I got to try a new area because I have yet to see a different species. Kenai calls for trout this next weekend so I will be back at it in 2 weeks. Hope to get my first ruffy soon.
