Default DM 697 - Delta River

Wondering if anyone has accessed the West side of Delta River south of Donnelly but north of Black Rapids Glacier (around Donnelly Campground for example). If so, what should be expected for crossing the river? Much for trails on the west side?

I understand that the river obviously fluctuates with current weather. Thinking about late October after the general hunt has finished up. Two of us, not afraid to do a little packing & hiking.

    Thanks in advance!

I talked to a fella last year about accessing that area for moose, he told me he had to use a custom built buggy with large tires and even then it was sketchy. He also told me that 6 4 wheelers tried to cross it last year and 4 were swept down river. I'd bet that when the weather turns colder that you might have an easier time crossing it. Be careful and have a great hunt.

I also drew that tag and I won't even think about hunting it until October as well.

I also know a guy that lost his 4 wheeler trying to cross that river a few years back. It looks deceiving.

I checked the area at Delta itself and found it more than I wanted to tackle for sure--but then again some might call me timid in that regard. I also checked the area south of Donnelly dome and was able to drive right out to the main channels but again a little too high for my comfort. One could raft across for sure but I'm sure cold weather will bring it down a lot. Just my two cents---
