Default Sharptail & ruffed grouse hunting near Delta Junction

Just wondering if anyone has been grouse hunting around Delta Junction lately and if so I would appreciate some general information on where to go and what kind of luck you had. Thanks.

The scouting year. This is the year when you decide to try some new areas and perhaps new game species. Unless you fall into it, no one is going to nursemaid you to grouse in Delta. Go up and spend some time learning the area and getting to know some people, present yourself well and be respectful and you may get some useful information. Figure that you are no going to fire a shot the first time around and once you accept that, things may change for you.

Lots of public ground to hunt in the area and plenty enough birds to keep a hunter busy. Now is the best time of the season. Become, and remain the student and it will all come together for you.

    Best of luck to you.

The grouse population here seems to have improved a little......still a long ways from the peak during the grasshopper infestation.

The sharptails start moving toward the mountains about now and hang out in wooded areas more than in earlier part of the season.

Now the grouse are full grown and feathers have matured......nice looking birds.

As usual, avoid shooting near homes and around livestock.

    Good luck!
