Is there anywhere to hunt caribou besides the haul rd that is accessable by road and doesnt require a draw tag?

40 Mile herd. Off the Steese or the road from Tok to Eagle. It is a registration hunt.

Not necessarily. Since they moved the start date to late August last year, I heard reports of much more relaxed hunting conditions. There were also fewer animals near the road than past years and terrible weather/road conditions, so that might explain some of it, but it sounds like Chicken wasn't quite the zoo that it used to be last year.

I was talking about the steese zone from last year start, I have the video to prove the count too, I quite counting trucks after 400. I hear they are still up around the charlie area, so who knows how mondays start will be? I have to work, so best of luck to those of you that get to go.

The hunt on the eastern and was nice last year. We blew through Chicken and went up toward Boundary and saw only about a half dozen other guys in the field. If you hunt Chicken Ridge you will have company. There is a lot of land out there, you can always find areas to be by yourself.

Exactly. Only lack of common sense would have someone hunting and camping around 30 other people in a vast area of land. I've been up there the past few years now and never had a problem getting away from the "crowds". I guess road hunting is considered crowding for some, but those people need to get off their ass and work for their animal anyways and get in the field!! I always snicker when I read on here on how bad it is going to be up there, but alas, it never is....Alaska is big!
