Default Who wants to teach me how to fly fish?

Its my first year here and I spent most of salmon season just teaching myself how to fish regularly again. I think Ive gotten the hang of that down and caught a lot of fish this year. I bought a new 8 wt rod with the intention of using it for salmon (I did catch a few reds with it) but would really learn how to use it properly. I dont know squat about setting it up or what type of flies I should even have. I want to use it much more next year as it is really fun to catch fish on. Maybe someone can give me some pointers? I would love to go out with someone so they could show me first hand but my schedule is kind of weird so it would have to be planned out a week or so in advance.

    Thanks!

I'm fixin' to fly out for 3 weeks on Monday, but when I get back in Sept I'll be on the Kenai chasing trout. Be happy to assist, just let me know.

Same here, will be on the Upper Kenai for Fishapalooza Sept 5-12.

Bring a six pack of silver bullets to the Russian River Campground (rainbow loop) one afternoon.

I will show you everthing I know about fly fishing by the campfire.

    Should take about 20 minutes

    Seriously, do drop in.

Does it have to be Silver Bullet? What if a guy brought some real beer... say a growler or two from St. Elias?

Then it might take 30-40 minutes

I'll be fishing from Friday for a week then I go south for the year. I will be fishing upper and middle kenai and possibly some lower peninsula streams if I get a Steelhead report.

You are welcome to fish with me....if you bring growlers

Actually, the growlers aren't necessary but would be readily consumed.

Well I may have to try and stop in at least one day for the fishapalooza. The beer isnt a problem. Is there some flies I should pick up? What type of backing do you guys recommend? Sink tip, floating? Is there a brand you recommend or one I should avoid?

Well I talked to the wife. I am gonna head down there. That is my long week at work and I only have 2 days off. Wed and thursday. I get off work early wed morning. What time to you guys typically head out for the float down stream? I may be able to make it if I get off early. If not then I will have to leave very early thursday morning to catch you guys before you head out and stay into thursday night possibly departing friday morning to be at work that night. Come hell or high water Im getting down there it just depends on when.

I can't catch fish on quartz, I don't understand why, I mean there's tons and tons of bugs coming off, no clue why they won't rise??? Can anyone help?

(actually dry fly fishing's been pretty productive)

I would have never heard of the book if it wasn't for the movie. And as you put it the book is way better then the movie, but that is often the case.
