    Default Again, timing is everything...

Ambushed this guy for third time three ridges away. Broke the #1 rule, never chase a caribou. Always head them off. This one earned...

    Nice bull way to go
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming-----WOW-----what a ride!

I guess that you proved that you can out run a caribou. How far did you end up carrying him? Nice picture, congrats

    Congrats on the extra effort!
Hmmm, I didn't think anybody hunted with a blued rifle on a wood stock anymore - very nice!

Thanks, had a blast! Left Thursday night to head to an old honey hole near Brushkana. The plan was to camp in the campground so I could dust off the old flyrod but after pulling in around 10:30pm, I seen the campground was full. Pretty upsetting to see OVER half of the sites occupied by single cars (and yes more then one Subaru) just parked with no camping equipment. No tents, no coolers, no chairs, nothing. Made no sense to me as there is two HUGE parking lots at the begining of the loop, but oh well, I headed down the road and slept in a turn out. The next morning we took the Arctic Cat side by side to the end of a 10 mile trail the took us up and up and up. Seen a few cow caribou and moose but that was it. Got back to the truck around 3:00pm, ate some lunch and headed on down the road. Met a few fellows along the way from the forum. Guess I just missed Jake at one point. Seen several cows and small bulls but right at 8:30pm I spotted a HUGE bull about 1-1/2 miles out feeding along a lake. I think I was around Mile 27 by now. I raced the daylight and made a stalk all the way out there just to get busted by a cow which made the bull run. I gave up and headed back to the truck and slept. After a rainy night I woke up around 6:30am and headed on down the highway but only made it a couple of miles when suddenly this bull comes crashing out of a gully and stops in the road and just stares at me! Then he snorts, rears up on his hind legs and bolts off. I thought I could race up the hill for a shot but once I got to the top, he was 400 yards out and moving. I ran back the truck, turned around and drove to the next ridge only to find that the bull was again about 400 yards out. Did this 3 times before I lucked out and found a nice hard packed, long ridge that I could make up time on him. Shot him about 150 yards, 300 wm Rem 700 with 180 TSX Barnes. Got checked by the Troopers, all is good...
