Default Mid season update. Picture Heavy.

Spring came on strong this year with Sunny Days and good conditions for some fun floating with the kiddo. Any excuse to "get some stick time" in for the season, eh?

So I loaded up The Hobbit and off to the Kenai we went....

Seems she wanted to drive, and who could say No to that kid?

We made a few trips down from May through June, getting in as much time together as possible before the Season fired up and I'd be climbing into floatplanes headed West.

Opening Day on the Kenai saw us camped out on the beach with good friends, kites, dogs, and assorted goodies.

As the first fly-out approached it was a frenzy of trips and fishing. Moments that will last forever in our hearts.

For being only 7, The Hobbit rallied like a Champ. Alaska Girls Kick Ass, for a reason.

But even the toughest of the tough wear out eventually.

Soon enough it was time to load up the Gypsy Wagon and head Home in preparation for getting out to Kukalek Lake for the first Alagnak trip of 2011.

Late June had us camped out at the outlet for Kukalek Lake.

    Camp.

Fishing from the bank there was productive.

Next up, we loaded the rafts and headed downriver.

The fishing was dern good. Not a large amount of 'bows that early in the year. But the sockeye, lakers, and chum where more than sufficient.

As always, we ate pretty well....

For a change, we floated past the usual take-out and down to the lower river. The geography was awesome.

    As where the campsites.

All too soon we where breaking down the boats and bidding farewell to our new friends.

And with that, we set our sights on the Goodnews River.

Arriving in less than optimal conditions with a more than optimal pilot.

Our next group arrived and we hunkered down for a night of rain and revelry...

Morning dawned and we where off.

The upper reaches are skinny, but beautiful. The grayling and dollies...Plentiful.

We had a few days of good weather. Every day was nice, regardless of what was happening overhead.

As we got lower on the river the fishing remained consistently amazing.

    And spirits remained high.

    Scenery didn't ever suck either...

As the trip wound down and we approached the Bay, it was time for reflections and group photos..

All to soon we where being towed into the village of Goodnews for the wheel plane back to Dillingham.

    That's the season thus far...

I'll update next month after more Kukalek/Alagnak/Morraine/Goodnews floats are completed for the Fall Season.

Actually I managed to get just shy of 30 in the freezer on the first run and have 12 more from the second all packed and stowed.

Shore 'nuff is a lotta fun getting that kinda volume on a 7wt....

Gonna cool my heels until late tonight, and then The Hobbit and I are Southbound to up the count....

Be happy to answer that first question via PM. I didn't make the post to garner any free advertising.

Thanks for the kind comments about my Daughter, every birthday she asks for more camping/fishing gear. Last month she got her first set of breathable chest waders, to go with her pink fishing vest and 6wt rod. I couldn't be happier or prouder.
