    Default PAIN Flying into Denali

I saw that there is a 3000 ft gravel strip (PAIN) right in the heart of Denali NP headquarters. Anybody ever been in there? How well is it maintained? Is it far to camping and services? Is there sufficient ramp space etc? I have a kansas built 4 seater tricycle. I went to McCarthy Alaska and stayed at the Kennicott Glacier Lodge a few weeks ago. Anybody know of any other places a non bush plane can go with a decent 3000 ft strip and something to do once you get there?

It has always been well maintained when I've been there and never any problem with ramp space. No fuel, but lots of camping close to the strip at Riley Creek campground. Make reservations at www.reservedenali.com.

Take a look at http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/..._photo/tanvly/ for several photos and information on this airport. scroll down to the INR listings .

This link has a bunch of information on flying in the Denali area, including frequencies and other stuff that I assume is of interest to pilots (I just strap in and hope the guy in the driver's seat knows all this!).

This link has information on seven airfields in the area -- runway length, frequencies, other remarks.

If you need to check something specific at Denali NP, the headquarters number is 683-2294.
