    Default vehicle to drive the haul road

    anybody have any good ideas for a vehicle to drive from anchorage to happy valley on the haul road to carry gear and fuel for a hunt in mid Aug.? We have a party of four total. Tom

    A crew cab PU with a couple of spare tires a floor jack and a 2x12 to put it on for tire changes. Drew

    any truck just a spare tire and tire plug kit. pretty easy road now days.

    thats is one of my concerns, how to secure 100LL barrels in A truck bed. How about rental vehicle? Is happy Valley the place to stage out of or any place better? Thanks guys. Tom

    Rent a U-Haul van. Cheap and it has a secure cargo box.

    How abt take the gear up and then fly it out aways from where the thieves are. Yeah those barrels wld be heavy.

    OK,.....get the barrels to a place where you can pay some for someone to watch them if possible and not to far away from where you'll be hunting.

    Just some thoughts.

    Too bad ya hafta worry about thievery even that far removed from the main population centers.

    Fuel bladders would be easier to hide than barrels and they roll up real nice when there empty.
