Default E.O. for reds - 6/day starting Thursday!

    As expected ...

    http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm...1517&year=2011

"The sport fishing bag and possession limit for salmon 16 inches or longer, except for king and coho salmon, in the Kenai River will be increased to six beginning Thursday, July 21. This does not include the Russian River and the Upper Kenai River “fly-fishing-only waters” near the Russian River.
The bag and possession limit for the Russian River and the Kenai River “fly-fishing-only waters” near the Russian River remains three per day and in possession. A complete description of the Kenai River/Russian River “fly-fishing-only waters” is found on page 51 of the 2011 Southcentral Alaska Sport Fishing Regulation Summary booklet."

    Default Why so late?

THANKS for posting - I had been watching the sport EOs since last week.

They started the emergency openings for the comm guys last week based on the massive expected run - yet they don't increase the sport limits until late the next week.

Always good to remember that the Kenai late sockeye run is "managed for commercial harvest..." Sport and personel use fishermen get the leftovers as usual.

I would expect the 6/6 will increase to 6/12 after another 450k or so fish pass the counter. If memory serves me well, after about 1mil. fish are in the river an EO granting 6/12 is issued.
