Does anyone know what the restrictions are for possesion of Polar Bear Fur? I belive that I have a source for some but I was wondering about the legal end of having it in my possesion.

Any info on this would be very helpfull.

    Thanks Chris

    Default Marine Animal Protection Act

    http://ipl.unm.edu/cwl/fedbook/mmpa.html

Which means no, unless it was first turned into a handicrafted item by a Native American as defined by the act.

    Thanks for the info.

That kind of sucks, Owning the fur of a dead animal is concidered "Harassment" Well I guess that I have "harassed" all kinds of animals to support my fly tying habit.

You can buy it in Anchorage with googly eye's on it, its considered handicraft but the guy who sells it works the sportmans show etc.

P.S. Mt. Goat hair makes an excelent polar bear subsitute
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

Ya got to be carful I knew a guy in Michigan that had several Macaws and other exotic birds. Each bird was housed in a nice big cage and he kept things nice and clean. Really a top notch aviary. Well he would clip wing feathers and tail feathers and sell them to help feed and house these birds, never clipped any of them to the point that they were bald or anything he really loved these birds. He's doing 15 years in a federal pen for traficing in endangeder species and they put down most of the birds!
