    It's sure been quiet...

Either the fish are flooding in and nobody wants to let the cat out of the bag, or there just aren't many to catch yet.

Looking at the sonar it's still too early. Based on historical runs, the first spike should be hitting this weekend. But there have been years where the first spike doesn't show up until after the 20th.

By the time we get the news it's too late! I'm going this weekend. Two high tides on Sunday and Monday.

Friend of mine dipped the tide last night and got nothing, but there have been commercial openers all week long so not many fish getting to the mouth of the river is to be expected.

Not suprising given the sonar counts

Given the historical run and the OTF counts the last few days and there should be a big slug of fish hitting this weekend/early next week. If you look at historical counts, it's like this every year. Nothing, or close to it, then BAM! Suddenly fish everywhere for a couple of tides.

I have yet to time my trip with the day that slug hits. Knock on wood, though. Gonna kill this year.

So my buddy still went to Kenai today after telling him a million times to wait for a few more days. Got a call from him few minutes ago and of course, first thing he said was "I should've listened to you" LOL. He said they only got 4 fish and dippers there average 2-5 fish a day. I'll keep a close watch at the numbers and maybe head out to Kenai next week.

If the AF&G office in Anchortown at lunch today is any indicator, you won't be alone this weekend

As to the historical chart, it is as an average. What the run chart will look like for a given year is nothing like the broad bump shown on the average. What you will see is a 3 day spike, that can occor anywere between the 10th and the 30th, and the sonar also has an approximately 24hr lag over what is happening at the mouth. It could be the 15th-17th, could be the 18th-20th, we won't know until it's too late. They are out there, and will be coming in soon, but anybodies guess as to when.

Also worth noting is today is a comm fish day, so probably not the best day to choose to go fishing given whats been happening on the sonar.

Asside from the dismal sonar counts, this weekend could be good. Then again don't be suprised if the fish don't show up until Monday, certainly well within historic ranges.

If a dipnetter dips a fish and there is no one around to see/hear it, Did he really dip?
