Default shifting delay on Volvo outdrive

Guy who bought my boat contacted me with a problem he had recently. He was having delay when shifting into forward. Reverse was fine. Seasport sportsman, Volvo KAD32p engine with the dual prop outdrive.

I remember this happened when I first bought the boat, and it fixed itself.

Do you adjust these back at the outdrive?

Does this have the electronic actuation of a cable linkage to the transmission? If so I would first disconnect the cable and verify that the actuator is shifting to the appropriate position. Then feel for a restriction in the cable/cable housing. After six years of light use my cable/housing were rusted/fused together. It was a $35 fix.
