On the comfish hotline otf had 285 in zone 5 which is on the east side inlet so I'm guessing that's the front of the first-big wave of fish. At least I hope it is

Oh Great. You couldn't keep quiet could you. Now 300,000 of my best friends are going to be standing right next to me next weekend!!!

I guess I'll just have to get there first, wear my billy bob teeth, and fart a lot.

COOK INLET NORTH OF KAMISHAK BAY AND ENGLISH BAY
    400 PM AKDT MON JUL 11 2011
.TONIGHT...N WIND 10 KT BECOMING SW AFTER MIDNIGHT. SEAS 2 FT. RAIN.
.TUE...SW WIND 20 KT. SEAS BUILDING TO 5 FT. RAIN.
    .TUE NIGHT...SW WIND 20 KT. SEAS 5 FT. N OF KALGIN ISLAND...VARIABLE
WIND 10 KT. SEAS SUBSIDING TO 2 FT.
    .WED...SW WIND 15 KT. SEAS 3 FT.
.WED NIGHT...SW WIND 20 KT. SEAS 4 FT.
    .THU...W WIND 20 KT. SEAS 3 FT.
    .FRI...NW WIND 15 KT. SEAS 3 FT.
.SAT...VARIABLE WIND LESS THAN 10 KT. SEAS 2 FT.

Historically it's 2-3 days early, but SW winds to 20 knots thru Wed night may bring the first push of fish ashore. Setnets could have a decent day for their regular Thursday opener.

Will it be enough for a sustained push of fish upriver for the weekend? Who knows.

The winds say no, but in the end, the fish have the final say.

    July 10:
    Station 5 = 248.1
    Total Index = 257

Yes, a nice wad of fish has entered the Inlet.

As Nerka has posted before, the early fish tend to stage for a bit before committing to the beach and ultimately the river mouth.

Wed morning is looking like a very good setup to move fish ashore. SW winds with a strong ebb in the morning (23 ft exchange) should put a very strong Kenai plume tight to the beach.

    Let's hope the fish respond!

Drift fleet took 104K on Monday. Single biggest day of the season... so far.

Thursday should see the beaches coming to life as well.

For those Kenai regulars out there, how long till they hit the fresh water? I haven't fished down that way in 20 years but have company in from down south for the next week and it seems like the valley is pretty dead and will likely stay that way till after they are gone.

Commercial spot planes on Thurs spotted a very very very large school coming in. I'm guessing starting early next week it's on. The king numbers should start advancing as well. I saw alot in dip nets this last week.

Sounds like you had a good workout. Iíll be flying into AK early Sunday morning and hope to be on the Lower Kenai that afternoon. Am I going to miss all of the fun?

I've been fishing with much success on the Lower Kenai the last couple days and with the expected numbers still to come in, your timing will likely be just right!
