    Default Dogs drinking salt water

My dog is new to Alaska. I have a drahthaar and he drinks sea water. I figured the dog would naturally not drink the stuff, but I have to pull him out. Will he eventually learn on his own not to drink sea water? Anyone have experience here?

Well, hard to say. We spend a lot of time near the ocean and while my 2 year old lab has never shown interest in it, my 9 year old golden can't be broke of it. That is with a bowl of fresh water not 50 yards away on our cabin porch. I've chocked it up to him being a ding-y golden and have also assumed that most dogs are naturally not interested or after getting sick enough times would learn to avoid it. Good luck with yours.

If your in a bay with a river close, the water might not be as salty as you think. Was watching dogs drink from the salt several weeks ago and when I asked the Lodge host about it and he just laughed and stated the water wasn't salty until you got out a couple of hundered feet.
