Default Clear Creek Out of Talkeetna

    Hey all

Heading to Clear creek on 7/25, wondering what to expect? I mostly fly fish but this is my first trip to alaska and want to maximize the trip, and advice on gear, flies and hardware to bring? That time of the year what is likely to be moving through and holding in the river?

Rainbows, dollies and maybe some early silver salmon.
Flesh flies, leeches, and sculpins work for me.
Also #2,3 & 4 blue or pink vibrax will work.

Thanks for the information. Can you visibly sight fish for the salmon? I was wondering if it is easy to tell the various species apart? I am used to sight fishing in Michigan, but that i stypically only for kings, the rest are all by catch.

A couple of years ago we flew into Clear Creek and floated it down for 4 days the second week of August. We mainly fly fished bead salmon egg imitations with a strike indicator for native rainbows and did well, my son threw vibrax and Kodiak custom spinners, there were allot of dog salmon in also. As far as sight fishing, it is difficult to sight fish the bows because they are so well camouflaged; the dogs and silvers are easy to see. We also fished the mouth with bait and limited on Silvers in no time at all. One of my best trips. Lots of bears also, have fun!
