    Default Outboard Kicker Size?

I have a 21' Grayling and want to put a kicker on it. What I want to know is, what size kicker should I get? This is for getting me home in case of emergencies, and trolling. Thanks in advance.

9.9 high thrust is the most popular choice

I agree with Hoose. An 8HP high thrust would not be a bad choice either, but my first choice would be the 9.9 Yamaha HT.

I agree with these guys. But I don't think it matter much what brand you get anymore as they are all pretty good. I also have yet to fully buy into needing a "high thrust" kicker either as for decades they didn't even exist and we got by just fine...

Current Yamaha High Thrust 9.9 and 8 hp work great, 8hp is less expensive. The high thrust series in Yamaha have a bigger clearence at cavitation plate to twirl a larger diameter prop. 1998 and older 9.9s had bigger bore than 8, but now they are the same. I had a 9.9 1993 on the 24foot seasport and it worked great, I put a F15(not hight thrust) on my 34 footer and that works perfect.
