Default Gulkana report 18 June 2011

Myself and 2 buddies floated the Gulkana with the Gulkana River RV Park and had a great time. Put in at the RV park (about mile 130) and floated down to the Rich Hwy bridge past Sailors (about 5 miles?) Spent the drift backbouncing corkies and limited in about an hour and some change. Saw several camps along the way but not sure how they were doing. The weather was great and the fishing was just as good. Hopefully the numbers come up but if not then I'm glad I got a trip in before it closes. Biggest of the day was a 40 lb chromer hen caught and released by one of my buds...great fish! Mine wasn't too bad either! Looks like an eagle tried to snatch mine before I did...can't complain...

Nice job Sapper glad you and your fishing partners had a great time. I had people sending me all kinds of photos of what a nice day Sat was to be out and about. Thanks for sharing.

Is the Gulkana RV Park open? Last time I fished there, they were going to some kind of permit system.
My child was inmate of the month at Mat-Su pre-trial Correctional facility.

They are in fact open but due to the upcoming closure I don't know for how long. We got 2 nights in the campground and a float for a military package deal but they advertise for 195 for the same on their highway sign.

Nice looking king. Just in time before the closure too.
