We saw a guy standing in water up to his chest flipping for reds today. It amazes me what some people are willing to do to catch fish.

I don't think you would've had to rescue him. The other guy standing near him looks like he was ready to spring into action. You can tell from his body language that he was really concerned.

What in God's name was he doing out there, anyway? Looks like he went all the way under at some point...his raincoat is nice and wet/shiny looking. Good thing he had his hood on.....

its funny watching people fish the kenai for reds because 99% of them stand exactly where the reds want to be
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

I had to rescue a older gentlemen out of Deep creek one day fishing for silvers. He was up to his waist in the river and slipped and fell down. His waders filled up and down the river he went. I heard him yelling and looked about 100 ft downriver and saw him go under. I threw all my gear in on the ground and took off running in my waders and caught him about 200 yards down stream from where I first saw him. He was in 2 ft of water and could not get up. He was going to drown in water that would not have come to his thigh. The guy in the picture would be dead before you could get to him with a boat. Heck the guy next to him probably could not have saved him. If you want to fish like an idiot then wear a PFD... I wear waders so I don't get my knees wet when I kneel down to release a fish and so I can cross the river if I need to, not because you need them when fishing. My favoriate trick in Deep creek is to hook a silver behind or right in front of people like that.... its fun when they swim between there legs.

One more example of ignorance. The greatest display I have seen is at the Russian river confluence. More than I once I tried to make people understand that if they just step back out of the water, the fish would be swimming by right beneath their rod tips in slower shallower water. For some reason so many people feel they need to be in the water with the fish in order to catch a fish.

What really blows their minds is when I stand above them on the bank and catch big fat rainbows between them and the bank. They look at me like I am crazy, I look at them like they are , well.... .

    Come on Chuck.
Maybe he fell in it happens. (don't ask me how I know)
I've actually gone for a swim in a couple of pretty bad areas on the Upper myself.
The worst being the back channel behind the island at Schooner Bend. Scary but not life threatening as long as you know what to do if you go in.

The best part was the 3 hotties on Windy Point who first commented on Chuck's hair, and then yelled to the guy in the hoodie "You're gonna die!".

Fishing with Chuck is just one adventure after another...
