Ben Grussendorf, BOG member and former legislator, dies at 69
I just heard that Ben Grussendorf passed away, wanted to offer condolences to his family and friends. I didn't know Ben well but enjoyed my conversations with him at BOG meetings, and always appreciated and respected his service to the state in various roles. He truly cared about Alaska and our future.
"My father and I had the great privilege to serve with representative Grussendorf," Gov. Sean Parnell said in a prepared statement. "His wit, humor, and respectful leadership are characteristics we will all miss. We will keep the Grussendorf family in our thoughts and prayers."
Grussendorf was most recently a member of the Game Board, with his term not set to expire until June of 2013.
Alaska flags will be lowered on Tuesday in honor of Grussendorf. Flags will be raised to full staff the following morning.
I share your sentiments, Mark. I served with Ben when we were colleagues on the BOG during 2001/2002. I also worked closely with his office when he was a legislator, in reference to consumptive use issues and natural resource legislation. He was a great guy and an interesting personality and as such, he was quite entertaining. I forward my condolences to his family, as well.
