IMO they should close all waters down.....let's hope next year's king return will be better and cross your fingers for a good silver season!

Great, that means all the guides will be pooling up at the deshka. They should shut 'em all down till the escapement levels are met 1st.
    Good luck this weekend.

So - if the deshka stays open do the commercial fishermen in the upper cook inlet still fish? Are they fishing now?

Thanks. I land in ANC in about 2 hours, then the phone calls begin. Should I try the Kasilof?

Kasilof, Kenai, .... Shoot, maybe check on things around the Gulkana as well. Don't let a few closures dampen your mood, there are fish to be had.

Because its very obvious that the fish arent there. In order to protect the few that are coming through and let them spawn a closure is necessary. Hopefully its better next year.

i kind of agree, to save what little fish do make it up there so in 2,3,4 years from now there is still fish comming back. It would be nice if the comm fish guys pulled the nets too but I know that wont happen people have to make money to live.

Word. I really agree with others on here that have stated it should have been shut down earlier. Make the escapement first then open it up not the other way around.

I would like to fish for kings in the coming years. Not just 2011 and then call it a decade or life time. That would be sad.

well I don't know about close the river till they get the numbers because then you really impact a lot of people, but I think they do need to seek a better way to manage the river, and not just this one but all of them. I also know you can only do so much with what your handed, and that it isn't easy to predict nature but it really sucks when the fish just plan don't make it back and then have people yank out what's left.

I understand that it does interrupt peoples food source. But like I was saying if we want this species of fish to stay on this planet and return to these waters at all in the future the only way may be to just shut it down for a while. Even if it takes a year or two. I think (at least for me) that would be an acceptable sacrifice for preservation of a species.
